Advancing funding for Mamaroneck Sheldrake Rivers Basin

Dear Neighbor,
I hope this email finds you healthy and well.
Since the beginning of my term, I have heard from constituents about the toll that the stalled Sheldrake Rivers Basin project has taken on the local Mamaroneck community. I’ve heard from you that every time there’s heavy rain, you have to worry about flood damage. Funding to address this was blocked by the Trump administration, but I am determined to secure these critical resources. My heart goes out to everyone who is affected by the stalling of this project.
I’m working to secure federal resources to bolster flood mitigation in this region. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida’s tragic impact on Mamaroneck residents, I joined Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand in writing a letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Acting Director Shalanda Young the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief Lieutenant General Scott Spellmon, and the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jamie Pinkham urging them to move forward with funding for the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake River Flood Risk Management Project. Since then, I have continued to closely monitor the situation.
On Monday, October 4th, I will meet with the US Army Corps of Engineers to receive a status update on this project and urge expeditious funding for the project. I am hopeful that after this meeting, I will have more information that many of my constituents seek and can share an additional update with you.
I know that many in our community have advocated for this project and other essential flood mitigation efforts locally. I am grateful for all the local officials, non-profit organizations, and community members who have raised their voices in support of desperately needed infrastructure investments, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them to build more resilient infrastructure in Mamaroneck.
In the meantime, I want to ensure you also know about FEMA resources that you may be eligible for following Hurricane Ida. If you are in need of assistance, I encourage you to visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired). The last day to apply for FEMA assistance is November 5th. If you have any questions about FEMA assistance, you can reach out to my office at bowman.casework@mail.house.gov.
Sincerely,
Congressman Bowman
